Data consulting for owner-led SMEs

Your numbers could be wrong. You just don't know it yet.

You don't lose deals because you lack data. You lose them in the three seconds it takes a client, a bank, or a co-founder to notice your report doesn't add up — and start wondering what else doesn't.

No slides. We look at how you report today and tell you exactly where it would fail first.

The gap

Unmanaged reporting vs. reliable reporting: what changes

This is what actually changes when reporting has an owner instead of a folder of spreadsheets.

Unmanaged

Unmanaged reporting: no single owner

  • Three people, three versions of "revenue"
  • Numbers arrive after the decision was already made
  • One person's laptop is the single point of failure
  • Errors get found by a client, not by you
With RDC

Reliable reporting: one source of truth

  • One number. Everyone in the room agrees on it
  • Reporting refreshes ahead of the decision, not after
  • Documented, automated — doesn't live in one head
  • You catch the problem before anyone outside does

Scenarios

Three common data reporting problems we find in SMEs

Illustrative scenarios based on the kind of gaps a Health Check usually surfaces — not a specific client's numbers.

Logistics

Margin loss hidden across disconnected spreadsheets

40-person freight operator
Confidence beforeConfidence after
Before

Fuel and freight costs sat in a different sheet from revenue. Margin was recalculated by hand every month, differently each time.

After week 4

One dashboard joins cost and revenue by route. A 6-point margin leak on one lane was visible in the first live session.

SaaS

Customer churn with no single source of truth

22-person subscription business
Confidence beforeConfidence after
Before

Churn was a gut feeling repeated in every meeting. The CRM, billing tool, and support inbox told three different stories.

After week 4

A single churn view tied to billing events. The real driver turned out to be one onboarding step, not price.

Hospitality

Revenue reporting that wasn't comparable across properties

3-property boutique hotel group
Confidence beforeConfidence after
Before

Each property manager reported occupancy and revenue their own way, on their own schedule. Head office compared numbers that weren't comparable.

After week 4

One dashboard, one definition of revenue per available room, across all three properties, refreshed daily.

Composite scenarios illustrating common findings, not verified client results.

How we work

Our six-week executive dashboard build process

A fixed schedule, not an open-ended project. Here's what happens, and when.

W1W2W3W4W5W6

Detect

KPI workshop — the decisions you make, and where today's numbers can't be trusted

Diagnose

Trace each metric to its source, flag every place it can silently break

Build

Working dashboard on your real data — rough on purpose, wrong early beats wrong and polished

Verify

You run it for a week. We fix what you ignored, cut what you never opened

Handoff

One hour of training. If it needs more than that, we built it wrong

Monitor

We watch real usage and tighten it, then you decide if you want us on retainer

Vision

Our five data principles

Simplicity

No dashboard should require training to read.

Business first

Business questions before charts. Always that order.

Speed

First working version in days, not months.

Clarity

Every report answers one decision.

Ownership

Wrong numbers almost always start with wrong data. We catch that too.

Frequently asked questions

What happens on the call?

Twenty minutes. We ask how you report today, what decision keeps getting delayed, and what that delay is actually costing you. If we're not the right fit, we'll say so.

Our data is a mess. Is that a problem?

It's the normal starting point. Part of the build is agreeing one definition per metric and one source per number. You don't need to clean anything before we talk.

Which tools do you build in?

Whatever your team will actually open — Power BI, Looker Studio, or Excel done properly. We choose the tool after we know the decisions, not before.

Do we have to commit to a retainer?

No. Most clients start with a Health Check or a single dashboard build. The monthly partnership only makes sense once something exists worth maintaining. If a Health Check shows you don't need us any further, we'll tell you that too.

What if the dashboard build runs late?

It's covered by the handoff guarantee: if we don't have it live and working by week 6, your first month of Fractional Partner support is free once it is. That's on us to manage, not you.

How much of my team's time does this take?

Roughly one workshop, one feedback session, and a training hour. We do the rest and come back with something to react to.
